You can start Google One subscriptions from third-party service providers, such as a mobile phone carrier, as part of a bundle or billed separately by that provider.
Activate your Google One plan
When you order a Google One plan or accept an offer, you'll get a URL with a unique activation code. You might get this URL from:
- An email or text message
- The partner's app
- A customer service agent
Important:
- If you already have an active Google One membership through a third-party provider, cancel your current plan to redeem promotional offers for another Google One plan.
- To activate your Google One subscription, you need a personal Google Account. Learn how to create a Google Account.
- Click or tap on the URL with your unique activation code.
- Sign in to the Google Account that you want to link to your new Google One plan.
- Review the details of your new plan.
- To activate the new plan, click or tap on Activate plan.
When you activate your account, you consent to Google One’s Terms of Service. You also consent to Google sharing your membership status with the provider so you can start, stop, or change your Google One plan through them.
To revoke this consent and stop information sharing with a provider, cancel the Google One plan you have with them.
Possible activation link errors
You may encounter errors when using your activation link.
Activation link expired
- The subscription link has expired if it has passed its validity period.
- To get a new link, click or tap Return to [Partner].
Subscription already in use
- The subscription link has already been used to activate the subscription of an eligible Google Account.
- To explore Google One for benefits and other offers, click or tap Explore Google One.
What happens if my Google Account:
Doesn’t have a current Google One subscription?The current plan will be canceled, and your new plan activates immediately.
- If you already have more data stored than your new plan allows, you or your family group may experience issues with your Google services, such as Gmail, Drive, or Photos. Learn how to free up storage.
- Your data won’t be deleted and you won’t lose Google One access.
- If you paid for your Google One subscription and you are switching to a similar or upgraded plan managed by a third party, you’ll receive a partial refund for the remaining days of the current billing cycle.
Your current plan continues and your new plan activates immediately. You’ll get the benefits from the better Google One plan.
To cancel your previous plan and avoid extra billing from Apple:
- On an iOS device, in Apple Settings, go to Subscriptions.
- Requests for refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with their policy. Learn how to request a refund from Apple.
To start your new plan, cancel the old one.
- Google One can be canceled either in the Google One app or through your provider. To cancel in the Google One app, go to Settings.
- To cancel Google One plans from Metro by T-Mobile, use the Google One app.
- To cancel Google One plans from other providers, use their website or contact their customer service.
- Your current plan may be canceled immediately or continue until the end of the billing cycle based on your provider’s policies.
- Any refunds for plan cancellations are handled by your provider.

Make changes to your Google One plan
Important: Some providers may have more or fewer options to change your plan.
After you activate your plan, go to your service provider’s website or app to:
- Change to a different bundled plan that includes Google One.
- Change to a different Google One plan.
- Cancel the Google One plan.
Switch from partner-billed to Google-billed retail plan
To switch from a partner-billed plan to a standard Google-billed retail plan:
For active prepaid members
- On your device, open the Google One app
.
- At the top, tap Menu
Settings
Change membership plan.
- Tap See all plans.
- Select the Google One plan you wish to switch to.
- Tap Get started.
- To confirm your upgrade, tap Continue.
- To go back and change the plan, tap Dismiss.
- To continue the purchase, select a payment method.
- If there’s no payment method saved in your account, you can add one in this step, then review your new Google One membership details.
- Tap Subscribe.
- On the confirmation screen, tap Done.
For active postpaid members
- On your device, open the Google One app
.
- At the top, tap Menu
Settings
Change membership plan.
- Tap See all plans.
- You’ll find that your Google One membership is billed by a third-party partner.
- Select the Google One plan you wish to switch to.
- Tap Get Started.
- Review your plan details and your current billing cycle.
- You should contact your third-party partner for any refund related questions.
- If you choose to downgrade your plan, you might run out of storage and get a notification. To confirm your upgrade, tap Continue.
- To go back and change the plan, tap Dismiss.
- Review your plan details and your current billing cycle.
- To continue the purchase, select a payment method.
- If there’s no payment method saved in your account, you can add one in this step, then review your new Google One membership details.
- Tap Subscribe.
- On the confirmation screen, tap Done.
Tip: To prevent duplicate billing, your original partner-billed membership is automatically cancelled when you switch to a Google-billed retail plan.
